Design Trend: Animated Infographics

I’ve been neglecting my blog and I’m sorry guys. I’ve been very busy gaining new business, working on my fixer-upper house with my husband and taking care of my dogs. It’s a busy life ya’ll.

That being said, another thing that has prevented my from posting is my insecurity about what people will think of the things I write. Should it be all business? Can I throw in some fun stuff? Will people want to read my random thoughts on typography pairings or the newest color trends? Bear with me as I take on subjects that I think are cool, with hopes that you’ll think they’re cool too.

So, today’s subject: Animated Infographics

I’ve made a few infographics in my day; it’s one of my favorite things to do! They’re not only pretty, they’re functional because they make information way easier to digest. I’m a visual learner (surprise, surprise), so it’s always been less painful for me to soak up information via an infographic than by traditional means (blog articles, essays, books). According to Pearson Education, 65% of people are visual learners. In case you can’t do math, that’s over half of the population and statistically, over half of your audience. Infographics provide the visual component to the information you’re trying to get out, thus making it a much more attractive and interactive way to relay that information. In case you need more convincing, take a look at this article from HubSpot that gives tons of compelling Visual Marketing statistics.

Now, animated infographics take regular infographics to the next level. Obviously, video has taken over the internet (Vindyard); you know this, because you’re on social media. So why not take that nifty infographic you created (or had someone create) and make it 100x more compelling by making it move? There are many ways to turn your infographic into an animated gif. Here’s a wonderful tutorial form Tabletop Whale.

Doing research for this blog post has inspired me to create my own animated infographic. It will be my first. I’ll post it in my portfolio when it’s done. If you need an infographic for your business and want some help, let me know here. I would love to capture your audience with some amazing facts displayed in creative ways.
